Custom Forgings

At Walker Forge, our primary process is closed-die forging, which involves heating special bar quality (SBQ) steel and forging it to shape to meet your custom specifications.

Our in-house metallurgical lab supports our steel forging and heat-treating operations. Experienced metallurgical engineers can analyze chemical and structural composition, verify mechanical properties, and perform detailed component analysis.

Custom Forging Applications

Closed die forgings are used in applications requiring superior mechanical properties and high structural reliability.  Walker forge can forge custom parts suitable for the following industries: Automotive, agriculture, construction, mining, military, energy, and industrial.

Custom forgings are commonly used for the following products:

  • Engines & Timing Gears
  • Transmissions & Gears
  • Track Components
  • Severe Service Ground Engagement tools
  • Spindles
  • Shafts
  • Drill Cones
  • Jet Arms
  • Flow Line Parts
  • Hammer Unions

Walker Forge Engineering Department

Walker forge utilizes design and simulation software to work collaboratively with our customers and their custom needs. The customer shares a print or 3D model of their part requirement along with a raw material designation or specification.  Then our Engineering department determines an optimized forging design for customer approval.

Forging Process

We specialize in closed die steel forgings, commonly called impression-die forgings, which are produced through a multi-step process. Heated steel is placed in a forging press and compressed in a series of tool steel dies that progressively reflect the mirror image of the desired final shape. Forgings are specified in high-load and high-stress applications for several reasons including:

+Internal consistency (no pockets or voids)

+Superior mechanical properties due to optimized grain flow and refinement
