Heat Treat Operator

Under the supervision of the Heat Treat Supervisor, the Heat Treat Operator will operate the gas/electric/carburizing heat treat furnaces.

SUMMARY

Under the supervision of the Heat Treat Supervisor, the Heat Treat Operator will operate the gas/electric/carburizing heat treat furnaces with the purpose of producing heat treated product to customer specification.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Operation of gas, electric, and or carburizing furnace(s)
  2. Start-up and shut-down procedures associated with furnace(s)
  3. Perform Hardness checks and log results
  4. Operate fire extinguisher system
  5. Operate crane hoist for normalizing conveyor
  6. Magnaflux for cracks
  7. Understand and adjust speed on normalizing, oil and water conveyors
  8. Operate Company computer System
  9. Operate fork truck
  10. Maintain required quantity and quality levels
  11. Follow all safety regulations

Education and/Or Experience

Requires a high school diploma or GED. No previous experience required. Related manufacturing experience or progressively responsible related experience is preferred. The position requires additional in-house training on special areas as appropriate.

Language Skills

Ability to read and interpret documents such as work orders, heat treat logs, move tickets, work instructions, employee handbook and safety regulations. 

Mathematical Skills

Ability to calculate figures and amounts using basic math to include addition and division.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to solve practical problems and to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Other qualifications

Requires ability to operate various tools and equipment to include SPC software, crane hoist, and fire extinguisher system, mag, grinder, forklift. Must also demonstrate the ability to work within a team environment.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works near heat treat furnaces and other moving mechanical parts. The employee is often exposed to high heat or hot working conditions, depending on the time of year. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
